MVMA Equine Practice Committee Meeting
Wednesday | February 15, 2017 | Up to 3 hours CE available
Room 101, Michigan State University Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health, 4125 Beaumont Road, Lansing, MI 48910

The Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health (DCPAH) is hosting the February 15, 2017 meeting of the MVMA Equine Practice Committee. (For February only, this is the third Wednesday of the month rather than the second Wednesday.) Events for the day include an optional one hour tour of the DCPAH facility; a two-hour equine necropsy wet lab; dinner and an evening lecture on equine necropsy and sample submission. All activities take place at DCPAH.

The equine necropsy wet lab is limited to 20 attendees. An optional tour of the DCPAH facility is available prior to the wet lab. PLEASE NOTE: Participants in the necropsy wet lab must complete an online biosecurity course before they can be admitted to the necropsy floor. They will receive detailed instructions by email about the required training.

For those not attending the wet lab, there will be another optional tour of the DCPAH facility before dinner. Due to security requirements, this tour is only available during regular business hours.

The evening lecture by Dr. Dalen Agnew will focus on equine field necropsy and sample submission. The lecture will cover concepts such as diagnostic tests and services provided by each section of DCPAH (anatomic pathology, bacteriology, clinical pathology, endocrinology, immunodiagnostics/parasitology, nutrition, toxicology, and virology); what specific samples to collect for the most important diseases and organ systems (sample types, location within the organ of interest, etc.); the logistics of sample submission; and how to navigate the DCPAH website.

All activities are free. Registration is required for the optional tours, the wet lab, and for the evening lecture. Registration is encouraged but not required for dinner and lecture if CE credit is not desired.
